Hodder & Stoughton has a long heritage of publishing brilliant books by brilliant authors with exceptional flair and success.

Founded in 1868, Hodder & Stoughton’s earliest successes included books from GK Chesterton, Winston Churchill as well as The Bible. The 1920s brought an explosion of commercial fiction at keen prices, as Hodder’s “yellow jackets” series paved the way for the first paperbacks, and included bestsellers from the likes of John Buchan, Sapper and Edgar Wallace.

The post-war years saw a succession of landmark non-fiction bestsellers including John Hunt’s The Ascent of Everest and Anthony Sampson’s Anatomy of Britain, and an expanded range of quality commercial fiction which included Mary Stewart, Elizabeth Goudge, James Clavell and John le CarrĂ©.

This tradition of quality bestsellers continues today, as Hodder & Stoughton boasts a wide range of landmark publications both within its eponymous list, and under its varied imprints Sceptre, Hodder Faith, the newly relaunched Coronet and recently created Saltyard Books and Two Roads lists.

A selection of Hodder & Stoughton’s most recent flagship successes include The Shack, The Other Hand, Cloud Atlas, Russell Brand’s My Booky Wook, Marley and Me, Michael Caine’s The Elephant to Hollywood, Michael Parkinson’s autobiography Parky, The Dukan Diet and One Day, and we are proud to be home to some of the biggest household names in publishing, from Melvyn Bragg, Kate Adie and Delia Smith to Jodi Picoult, John Grisham, Jeffery Deaver, John Connolly and Stephen King.
