Press Release

Octopus Publishing Group announces a new collaboration with Australian Women’s Weekly01/03/2010

We are delighted to announce that we are taking over the UK publishing of one of the world’s best-known cookery brands – The Australian Women’s Weekly.

First published over 30 years ago, The Australian Women’s Weekly publishing programme has now sold over 70 million books in over 100 countries. Generated by ACP magazines in Australia, the material is fresh, accessible and ultra-reliable – with every recipe triple-tested for great results every time.

The UK publishing was previously with ACP UK, managed by Laura Bamford and her team, who have grown the list with notable success in recent years.

From 1 April OPG will be taking over all the UK publishing with a range of approximately 30 new titles per year, with total titles in print numbering approximately 200.

We are also very pleased to welcome Sarah Bailey to Octopus in the role of Publisher, The Australian Women’s Weekly. Sarah comes with a superb track record of commercial success and brand management. Among other roles she has been Special Sales Director at HarperCollins and Managing Director of the Collins business for 6 years, before leaving to work on her own consultancy projects. We are delighted she has agreed to take on the management of this important new publishing strand for us.

Sarah Bailey said ‘I have been waiting for just such an opportunity and am thrilled to join the Octopus team.  The Australian Women's Weekly cookery range is a hugely exciting business to get my teeth into.  ACP UK has done a tremendous job developing the market through multiple channels. My task is to expand on that strong record, by building this powerful global brand and encouraging this fresh, fabulous list to flourish and grow.’

Alison Goff, CEO for the Octopus Publishing Group stated ‘The Australian Women’s Weekly list is a really good fit for Octopus and will allow us to further build our strong presence in the cookery market’.
